~ Astrology of January and into 2020 ~
And so, we find ourselves heading into a new decade. After the excitement of the festive season, the world seems silent and still. The nights are still long and the days short, yet the light is slowly beginning to return. The bare branches of the trees are now coated with a layer of icy frost that sparkles and glistens in the bright winter sunlight. Snowflakes fall from the crisp blue skies, kissing the cold, hard ground, wrapping the land in a crystalline blanket of white…..
We enter January 2020 in the midst of Eclipse season, with a 5 planet stellium in the sign of Capricorn, bringing us some of the most powerful astrology of our lifetimes as a multiple cosmic cycles simultaneously complete and begin over the next 12 months. The great Silver Wheel of fate and karma spins and turns, giving us glimpses of the future as as we collectively and personally enter an epoch of total transformation.
It is more important than ever at this time that we act from the higher Capricornian principles of morality, integrity, impeccability and soul wisdom. What we set in motion at this time will reverberate throughout time and space during the coming decade. Nothing comes quickly or easily with Capricorn, who always invites us to look at the long-term implications of our actions.
This month we must ask ourselves, what are we choosing to commit to, and why? How can we take back responsibility for every area of our lives? What are we leaving behind for future generations?
On the 3rd of January, Mars the Warrioress leaves the deep waters of Scorpio and crosses into the fiery heat of Sagittarius. Here Mars takes on the archetype of the Artemis the Huntress, shooting Her Arrows of righteous truth into the core of our being. She provides a much-needed element of motivation and optimism in amongst the heaviness of the Capricorn energies. Mars in Sagittarius can be blunt, with a desire to passionately defend Her beliefs and opinions. This is a time for truth tempered with compassion and acceptance of others peoples choices.
Jupiter conjuncts the South Node in Capricorn on the 8th of January, asking us to look at what old attitudes and karmic attachments we need to shed in order to embody our visions for the future. Our old ways of doing things are no longer working. How can we let go of rigid attitudes and concepts to birth something new?
On the 10th of January, we have a Full Moon/Lunar eclipse in the sign of Cancer, the Moon Mother Herself. Sitting in opposition to the gathering of planets in the sign of the SeaGoat, this Lunation is one of soul cleansing, reminding us of the importance of softness, receptivity and surrender amidst the weight of pressure and sense of striving this Capricorn season is bringing us.
This Eclipse season on the Cancer/Capricorn axis reawakens the issues of work, finances, home, family, ancestry and lineage we have been working with since November 2018. In May 2020 the nodes will shift to the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity, bring a fresh set of lessons and a new evolutionary impulse.
With Uranus the Storm Goddess also stationing direct today, upheavals, shocks and unexpected change is in the air. Our sense of security may feel threatened as we are encouraged to liberate ourselves from old entrenched patterns. Uranus has been retrograde in Taurus since the 11th of August 2019, calling us to review and revolutionise the way we relate to our finances and sense of self-worth.
This eclipse brings closure to the two week long Eclipse portal that opened on the 26th of December with the Capricorn New Moon. We now enter a 5 week window of all planets moving direct, until Mercury stations retrograde at 12 degrees of Pisces on the 16th of February.
The main cosmic event of the month is the long awaited, much discussed Saturn/Pluto conjunction which becomes exact at 22 degrees Capricorn on the 12th of January. Sol, Mercury, Goddess Asteroid Ceres and Chariklo, wife of Chiron will also be close at this time.
Saturn and Pluto previously collided in Libra, in November, 1982. The last time they came together in sign of Capricorn was 1518. Throughout history, Saturn/Pluto alignments have preceded times of great political and religious challenge and change, as old established structures fall, and new ones rise in their place. Themes of austerity, financial collapse, and exposure of the ruling elite’s agenda and greed are likely to intensify globally.
Since the Pluto/Uranus square of 2012, too much has been revealed, too many souls have awakened to the truth. We can never go back to our old, unconscious reality. What will we build in its place?

On a personal level, these energies invite us to fearlessly face the reality of our lives. To take back our power from the corrupt institutions that govern our 3D world and transform our lives so that they align with our souls true evolutionary intentions. This may require stripping back, letting go and becoming self-reliant/self-sustaining for a while. The strong Saturnian vibration reminds us that what we want, is not necessarily what we need.
Capricorn teaches you that you are the authority in your world. No one is coming to ‘rescue’ you. Acting with discipline, tenacity and radical self-awareness will yield the most positive results as the year unfolds.
Between April and November 2020, Jupiter will also conjoin with Pluto, the Dark Mother 3 times. This potent alignment supports us in awakening to the truth of our own power and potential. We are not small, or helpless but infinite, eternal beings of starlight, temporarily encased in a physical body.

Throughout 2020, Saturn will move back and forth across the Capricorn/ Aquarius cusp, before conjuncting with Jupiter at 0 degrees of Aquarius on the Winter Solstice 2020. It is time for us to us to reclaim our sovereignty and revolutionise our world! We chose to be here at this time of great instability in order to play our role in ushering in the Aquarian age of community, collaboration, humanitarianism and equality. What a privilege to witness the collapse of the systems of control that have held our souls in bondage for thousands of years!
Venus/Inanna heads into Pisces on the 13th of January. With the Love Goddess in Her sign of exhalation, we are able to reconnect with the healing energies of forgiveness and empathy. Venus in Pisces offers us an awareness of the undefinable love of source that transcends personality. Under Her compassionate gaze our egoic defence mechanisms melt away, reminding us of our own divinity. As Venus swims through Pisces, we remember that from a soul perspective, the only thing truly that matters is the love we give and receive.
Mercury crosses into Aquarius on the 16th of January, initiating a shift from the stagnancy of the overload of Earth energy towards the clarity of the Air element. As the planets move into the transpersonal sign of the celestial water bearer, they will collide with Uranus in Taurus, reminding us that all of our individual ambitions and achievements mean nothing if they are not serving the all.
Sol enters Aquarius on the 20th of January, giving us a New Moon on the 27th which also sits in square to Uranus! This first Lunation of the upcoming Imbolc Season awakens the StarFire in our souls, inviting us to free ourselves from the shackles of convention and societal expectation. More than any other sign, the Aquarius Goddess calls us to remember our own unique, individual expression of self.
The strong activation of the Aquarian/Uranian frequency calls for freedom from all that feels stuck or stifling. The less attachments we have, the more peace we will feel.
Also at this time, Venus will be conjunct Neptunia in Pisces, and in square Mars in Sagittarius, reminding us that beyond all of our postulating, ideologies and political/religious/spiritual beliefs we are all one. When allow ourselves to be divided we lose our power. When we come together, we are able to create the change the world needs!
